the brief
"This collage-style title sequence kicks off Benshi Creative's 2022 ski film, MIXTAPE. Different story lines, soundtracks and settings are woven together by a shared connection to the mountains.
To create the visuals in this piece, I composited physically scanned materials together with 2D animation to build a wormhole-type scene. The majority of assets are scanned images from vintage LIFE magazines, and Bomb Snow magazines (a key sponsor of the film). Supplemental assets were printed out and scanned to achieve a cohesive textural treatment. Supplemental animations were created to augment the stream of scanned images, creating deeper visual interest that helped advance the narrative.
Images of athletes were taken and provided by Jonathan Finch. MIXTAPE logo designed by Sloane Gordon. All other assets sourced or created by yours truly."

To round out the title sequence, I created a vector animation of the film studio's logo that echoes the painterly yet technical aesthetic that defines the studio. Several versions were created to explore potential animation styles.
